FAQ

  • 1. If I want something written that's true, that makes me look good, that people will remember - book, speech, article, etc. - do I hire you or someone like you?

    Me is fine.

  • 2. Do you explain how the process all works - including publishers, agents, $$, timing, drafts, all that?

    Yes.

  • 3. Do you have a particular way you like to work?

No. I work the way you like to work.

  • 4. Do we work in person, by Zoom, by phone, side by side...what?

    Please see Answer #3.

  • 5. Do you have any bookwriting wisdom you've accumulated over the years?

Yes. For the most part, three things have to be in play for a book, and the process of writing and completing it, to work: 1) we like each other, 2) we trust each other, 3) you have a good story to tell (but almost everyone has the last one, though they often don’t know which one). Also, 4) you need to have a pretty good memory. And 5) it helps to have an appreciation for detail and the smaller moments. So those three things, plus the two other things.

  • 6. You don't know me. What makes you think you can tell my story?

I’m curious. I’ve been told I can get along with just about anyone. The process helps reveal the story. You have one to tell. Everybody does.

  • 7. You sound like a pretty confident guy - almost too confident.

First, that’s not a question. Second, I have a historically terrible sense of direction. You would not want to eat what I cook. And my best days as an elbow supermodel are behind me. But I know how to write anything. You’re reading the final point in an FAQ, aren’t you?
